The Woodcutter’s Children

there is moonlight back to where we began we run between the trees we must be glinting we light

on the pebbles we hold them to our ears we call softly can you hear me can you hear me are you there

if the pebble won’t hear we drop it light on another no time can you imagine we fall on them like hawks on mice

we hold them to our ears we call softly are you there are you there please answer it’s like

it’s like we’re falling into our own ears it’s like there is a connection where are you do you know

do you know we look around but we can’t tell it’s a forest there are pebbles on the ground they look like moons

can you find us can you come if you can hear me it’s like can you come if you can hear me it’s like an echo

it’s like a stutter on the line it’s like we hold the pebbles to our ears we breathe come quick we breathe come

quick we can hear ears we can hear ears prick up up there in the branches
